aka wounded general

My work is an investigation into the historical, physical and scientific nature of paper and book structures, seeing this as a way to force a viewer’s interaction with artistic pieces that often would feel distant and removed. I am interested in creating works that are not passive but speak to the history of information and the human touch by incorporating painting, writing, and movable paper and book structures that are often sculptural installations. In addition to teaching and maintaining my studio practice, I am in the process of building a collaborative papermaking studio in North County San Diego called The Society of Hermits which aims to bring together artists that normally work in solitude, with the belief that there is a desire for meaning and shared knowledge in everyone that transcends place and physical specifics, and that by working together we can create something greater than ourselves.
